Enhance How You Teach

Enhance How You Teach

One in every five students is dyslexic. In a classroom of twenty-five students, five will struggle with reading.

The Orton-Gillingham approach is a wonderful way to reach all students.  It can supplement an existing program or it can be used as the primary reading and spelling program.

The Orton-Gillingham approach gives students the tools they need to read over 90% of the words in the English language. Drills, finger-spelling, penciling and other tools help students decode and encode words easily.  Explicit instruction of the spelling rules, syllable division rules, and syllable patterns help turn the light bulbs on for students.  Using multi-sensory techniques helps to cement new concepts and aid learning and recall.

After third or fourth grade when reading instruction stops in the schools, many students will struggle. With a phonics program like O-G, students can continue to decode higher level words by using the tools and techniques they have learned.
